Smallspace, the HaMeX-organised model show for all things space, science fiction and fantasy returns to Hanslope, Buckinghamshire, in July.
Launched back in 2012 this HaMeX event uses model maker Mat Irvine‘s original website name as its title. Held mid-year, it’s become the largest HaMeX Events show, as it branches out from purely models and incorporates full-size items – costumes, props and vehicles.
Tickets are sold on the door. There is no advance booking.
This model making event be especially celebrating Thunderbirds, marking the show’s 60th Anniversary, and also the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, which took place 50 years old this year. (The 1:25 scale model of Apollo-Soyuz built by Mat Irvine for the TV coverage in 1975 will be on display). But other subjects are likely to be celebrated, too – and you can never have too many Daleks…

Announced exhibitors include Andy Preston of Andy Preston Models, Andy Casey (Scaletronics, specialst electronics), Kathy Dowler and Anthony Hughes of Sci-Fi and Fantasy SIG, Gary and Helen Hilliard of Mooncrest Models, Warren Monks of Tirydium Models, Keith and Adele Tomlinson of Cozmic Scale Models, and Graham Trotter, with a giant Millennium Falcon! Plus booksellers and more.
HaMeX events, which also currently include “Media Modelling” and “The Model Market”, are co-hosted by Mat Irvine (Doctor Who, Blake’s 7), Paul Fitzmaurice and – very occasionally – David Jefferis.
The HaMeX end-of-year show, The Model Market 12, will be back to Sunday 16th November, with the Christmas Craft Fair, the previous day, Saturday 15th, at the same venue.

2025 sees the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP), which took place in July 1975, part of President Richard Nixon’s “détente” programme with the Soviet Union, initiated before he resigned in disgrace. The last mission to use Apollo technology, the original plan was that a Soyuz would dock with NASA’s Skylab station, or Apollo docking with the USSR’s Salyut. An Apollo docking with Soyuz proved the simplest option for this diplomatic mission.
