The terrific football strip Striker – which currently appears in print The Sun as a regular strip, probably making it one of the most-read strips in the UK – has just been launched as an App from Syon Publishing, offering all the glitz and glamour of the wildest football stories ever told for your iPad or iPhone.
Since making its debut 28 years ago, the classic Striker tales have revolved around the life of Nick Jarvis, who began his career as a striker and now coaches Warbury Warriors – a fictitious team that plays against real teams and players from England’s Premier League and Football League.
Now fully launched as an App, you can follow the sensational adventures of the Warriors and their rise from non-league obscurity to Championship and Premiership glory – including dramas on and off the pitch, in the boardroom and in the bedroom – in an innovative and automated full-screen format.
The stories featured include strips first published in the much-missed Striker comic, which creator Pete Nash created in a bid to bring the tale to a wider audience.
“I’m really excited to see Striker come to life in this new format as an App,” says Pete. “It enables Striker to be marketed worldwide in a digital package that will be radically different to other comic apps due to its creation in 3D software and full-screen presentation of each panel.”
In this specially designed App, you can start collecting the full set of Striker adventures, kicking off with Striker: The Warbury Years, and a rip-roaring yarn about Warbury owner Eric Openshaw’s wife being held hostage by a gang of motley crooks who demand his team lose 9-0 to Manchester United in a cup tie in order to collect a fortune from the bookies.
Each week a new installment will be released. The first ten issues are already uploaded and you can try out the first part for free.
Developers Syon Publishing, a leading multi media publishing solutions company, have created a unique platform that uses Striker’s 3D artwork to make full frames that swipe from one to another. You can view your issue in automatic mode which moves through the frames, or you can swipe manually.
Graeme Gourlay, Managing Director, Syon Publishing says: “We have dozens of archived Striker stories to put onto this format and plan to bring a new issue out each week.
“We have started with the issues from when Pete published Striker as a weekly comic. The earlier classic newspaper strips will be published later in another app called Striker: The Beginning”.
