Hergé Studio The Adventures of Tintin: King Ottokar’s Sceptre Original Art (B.R.T., 1953)
Tintin and Snowy are scoping things out from a safe distance in this forest scene from King Ottokar’s Sceptre – which would become the first of Tintin’s tales to be adapted for the animated series Hergé’s Adventures of Tintin. Ink and charcoal over pencil with an image area of 15.75″ x 11.75″. Various folds on the edges. Includes a photocopy of the signed C.B.E.B.D. certificate by Bob de Moor and Michel Deligne.

As downthetubes readers know, UFO was Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s first live-action science-fiction series, centred on S.H.A.D.O., a covert military force fighting alien incursions from hidden bases on Earth. This page sends Commander Straker and Foster into the field as a S.H.A.D.O. Mobile crashes the alien position, a dart drops the final attacker, and a South American operation moves one step closer.

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
