Titan Comics has announced it will publish a brand-new Doctor Who mini series featuring the Eighth Doctor, as played by Paul McGann.

The first issue of the new series will hit comic stores on 28th October 2015 and is being written by George Mann (New York Times-bestselling Doctor Who novel Engines of War) with art by Emma Vieceli (Breaks, Alex Rider: Scorpia, Dead Boy Detectives, Vampire Academy, Manga Shakespeare).

Although Paul McGann’s Doctor appeared in just one longform Doctor Who TV story, the 1996 TV Movie, he enjoyed a long run as Doctor Who Magazine‘s Doctor of choice for their comic strips and his adventures also continue thanks to the audio dramas released by Big Finish. The incarnation was given a surprise TV finale in the 2014 minisode Night of the Doctor as part of the show’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Issue #1 comes with four covers to collect: a special art cover by Alice X. Zhang;  ​a ​photo cover; an art cover by Warren Pleece and a ​blank ​s​ketch variant.

“I can’t tell you how amazing Emma Vieceli’s art is on this,” Mann enthused on Twitter, replying to the many enthusing about the news of the mini series . “You’ll love it.”

“And what George isn’t saying is that his script is fantastic fun too!” Emma responded.

John Freeman

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
