“Oeste” (“West”) by Catalan artist Albert Fabà

Albert Fabà, better known for his fine art and murals, was born in 1927, and studied drawing at the old School of Labour of the Convent of Saint John in Tortosa, and, later, studied at the l’Escola de la Llotja. After World War Two, he was part of the artistic collectives Delta 51, together with fellow artists Robert Escoda, Valldepérez, Francesc Todó and Garcia, among others); and MACLA-65, together with Frederic Mauri, Pallarès, Ferran Cartes, Yerro and Manuel Pérez Bonfill, among others. The influence of the latter collective, characterised by the practice of critical realism and the defence of art as a tool for political awareness and social transformation, was significant, and it stayed with Fabà throughoutf the 1970s.

His work as a wall painter gives him the opportunity to know many materials and to experiment with them freely. The desire to experiment has taken him on very different paths in the different eras in which his painting can be divided.
