The Awesome Comics Pod – Rachael Smith and Kat Chapman

Awesome Comics Podcast Episode 9 - Rachael Smith

Finally! The gentlemen of the Awesome Comics Podcast have had the restraining orders removed and welcome not one, but two female creators onto Episode 9 of their weekly small press comics podcast.

This week Vince Hunt, Dan Butcher and Tony Esmond welcome both Katriona Chapman and Rachael Smith for a chat and some larking about.

Katriona Chapman - Graphic

First up on the show is the hugely talented writer and artist Katriona Chapman, who is part of the Tiny Pencil comics collective and produces her own semi-autobiographical comics series Katzine. She spoke about her craft and her new job as one of the head honchos at Avery Hill Publishing. This is a really enlightening conversation for those who are both looking to get their comics published and need that kick to just get one with them.

This highly skilled and industrious creator opens the show (and has promised to come back on – so look out for her on upcoming episodes).

The Rabbit by Rachael Smith - Sample Art

Mentioned quite a few times now on the podcast the lads finally get to chat to Rachael Smith. Fresh off the release of her excellent new graphic novel The Rabbit she was happy to join in the messing about that usually takes over the episodes. She also spoke about how The Rabbit took form and what she was aiming for with the story.  It’s a book full of heart and personal discovery and needs to be in everyone’s library.

• You can grab a copy of The Rabbit at www.averyhillpublishing.com or have a look at some more of Rachael’s work at http://rachaelsmithillustration.blogspot.co.uk and follow her on Twitter @rachael_

Rachael, Vince, Dan and Tony also review some great indie comics, talk about upcoming events and pose a question that could win two lucky people tickets to the always fun Nottingham Comic Convention.

They also talk about their experiences at Melksham Comic Convention (reviewed here on downthetubes), their holiday plans, Dan’s quest to get a pull quote and useful things to ask Siri.

So if you don’t mind sweary comics talk then pop over and have a listen.
