A Moment in Time: Sergio Aragones New York Comic Con Poster, 1972

Sergio Aragonés original art for 1972 New York Comic Art Convention Poster will come to auction at Heritage Auctions in September, as part of their Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction running over 12th – 15th September.

The printed poster is quite rare, making the original art even more desirable.

Aragonés included an incredible number of characters in attendance, with many hidden guest appearances (including Alfred E. Neuman). Who can you spot?

Sergio Aragonés 1972 New York Comic Art Convention Poster Original Art

Sergio Aragonés, now 86, is a celebrated cartoonist and writer known primarily for his contributions to MAD Magazine. He’s most recognised for his series of wordless “drawn-out dramas”. He also created the comic series Groo the Wanderer, blending elements of humor and sword and sorcery.

The Sergio Aragonés International Award for Excellence in Comic Art, awarded previously to cartoonist Posy Simmonds and the adult humour magazine, VIZ, was created in his name by the National Cartoonists Society.

The auction lists over 700 artworks, including art by Charlie Adlard, Brian Bolland, John Byrne, Richard Corben, Steve Ditko, Dave Gibbons, Will Eisner, Lee Elias, Glenn Fabry, Gil Kane, Jack Kirby, Joe Kubert, Jim Lee, David Lloyd, Frank Miller, Alex Ross, Barry Windsor-Smith, Bill Watterson, Wally Wood, and Bernie Wrightson, among many others.
