An upcoming Timed Entertainment & Memorabilia Auction from Woking-based auction house Ewbank’s, includes a huge range of items sure to appeal to many downthetubes readers. Alongside records, posters and film scripts, these include original Andy Capp art by his creator, Reg Smythe and Varoomshka art by John Kent, Gerry Anderson show-related models, Star Trek items – and a boxed Talking Dalek that has attracted some fierce bidding!
Items on offer include a Fireball XL5 Specification Sheet, produced by Gerry Anderson’s A.P. Films (Merchandising) Ltd. in 1962. This single sheet, colour is illustrated on both sides with details of the principal Fireball XL5 characters, the spaceship, production stills and a general background of Space City.

The item comes from the collection of British puppeteer, Christine Glanville (1924-1999), a grandniece of Robert Peel Glanville Blatchford (1851-1943), the socialist campaigner, journalist, and author. Her grandfather was Punch cartoonist, Montagu Blatchford.
Glanville’s long collaboration with Gerry Anderson began in 1956 as a puppet operator on the Twizzle and Torchy TV. series. She went on to design, sculpt and operate many leading characters including Four Feather Falls, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons, Terrahawks and Anderson’s unscreened Space Police pilot episode.
Glanville secured the stage rights to Rupert Bear from the Daily Express in the 1970s and formed The Stage Three Company with fellow Century 21 puppeteers, Rowena White and David Ross.

Terrahawks – Battlehawk replica model made by David Sissions in the 1980′, similar to those used in the production of Terrahawks, the 1980s British science fiction television series produced by Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson, in conjunction with Christopher Burr. It is constructed from fibreglass and features a silver and orange paint finish with detailed panel lines and weathering, approximately 52 cm long.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Explorer (previously known as Star Trek Magazine) and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of "Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies" for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
