Medway Comic & Screen Festival has announced that British comic legend Simon Bisley will be at their next event on 30th March 2019.
Simon Bisley is a British comic book artist best known for his 1990s work on 2000AD’s “ABC Warriors” and “Sláine”, and DC Comics Lobo and Batman. His style, reliant on paints… as well as inks, was strongly influenced by Frank Frazetta and Bill Sienkiewicz and took inspiration from rock album covers and graffiti as well as traditional comics art.
While still a student, Bisley did a painting of a robot holding a baby that a friend passed to Pat Mills, which led to his work on the “ABC Warriors” strip in 1987.
Other announced comics guests at the event include artists Steven Austin (2000AD), Stephen Baskerville (Transformers), Paul Buckenham, John Charles (2000AD), Phil Elliot (The Real Ghostbusters), Glenn Fabry (2000AD, Preacher), Verity Glass (Doctor Who), Martin Griffiths (Thundercats), John Higgins (2000AD), Hal Laren, David Millgate (2000AD), Mark Montague (2000AD), Grant Perkins (Doctor Who), Ian Richardson (2000AD, Grimm Fairy Tales), Karl Richardson (2000AD), David Roach (2000AD, Doctor Who), Geoff Senior (Transformers), Cam Smith (2000AD, Supergirl, Incredible Hulk), Des Taylor (DC Bombshells, Scarlett Couture), Lee Townsend (2000AD), 2000AD 2017 talent search winner Paul Williams and Iolanda Zanfardino; and writers Simon Furman (Robotech, Transformers), James Peaty (Doctor Who), Mike Garley and Ian Sharman (Alpha Gods, Hero 9 – 5).
Medway Comic & Screen Festival is a celebration of comics and all things big and small screen. Next taking place on Saturday 30th March,MCSF will once again be taking over Medway Park in Gillingham Kent.
The event aims to bring fans some of your favourite stars from TV, film and comics – as well as a whole host of activities including photo shoots, autograph sessions and stalls full of TV, film and comic memorabilia.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
