British Comic Shop Comic Releases (13th August 2014) – Carl Critchlow on IDW’s “Judge Anderson”

2000AD Prog 1894

Here’s a list of comics – both US and UK releases – on sale in specialist UK comic shops from tomorrow, Wednesday 13th August 2014, courtesy of First Age Comics, Lancaster. We’ve picked out the titles published by British publishers in bold below, or titles with a British connection we’re aware of.

Releases include 2000AD Prog 1894 (also on sale in newsagents), which features a new Judge Dredd arc ‘Cascade’ from writer Michael Carroll, artist Paul Marshall and colourist Gary Caldwell, featuring a 21st century astronaut who makes a high-profile return to Earth. But danger has waited 87 years for her arrival; writer Gordon Rennie, artist Leigh Gallagher and colourist Dylan Teague continue Aquila’s ‘Carnifex’ as Aquila’s quest for the Emperor Nero takes him to revolting new depths; Ian Edginton and INJ Culbard continue their Brass Sun tale ‘Floating Worlds’, in which an ambush is all in a day’s work for Wren and the crew; Leah Moore, John Reppion, Steve Yeowell and Blythe’s Black Shuck continues, as the king reveals his cursed hoard to Black Shuck; and Rennie, artist Simon Coleby and colourist Len O’Grady continue the new Jaegir story ‘Circe’, in which Atalia Jaegir comes face to face two monsters from her past.

While you’re in your local shop, you might want to order the new Zenith: Phase One hardcover which is available for pre-order using Diamond order code AUG141639 (or direct from the 2000AD webshop)

Also out this week is SECONDS, the new graphic novel from Bryan O’Malley, published in the UK by SelfMadeHero (reviewed here) and Judge Dredd: Anderson Psi-Division #1 from IDW, written by Matthew J. Smith (2000AD‘s editor) with art from Carl Critchlow and cover art by Matt Haley. In an all-new adventure from Cassandra Anderson’s early days in the Mega-City One Psi-Division, writer Matt and Carl present “King of the Six Sectors.” It all starts with Anderson awaking from an unusually strong vision of an attack on the Megapolitan Museum showcasing Cursed Earth artifacts…

The release list below features mainly US titles from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, IDW, Image Comics and other publishers, including Trade Paperbacks. We’re not including merchandise releases in these news items.
