After a long year and a half of searching for the right venue and the right dates, BHP Events – part of comics publisher BHP Comics – has finally been able to secure all the elements they want to produce their first event in Edinburgh. Like the phenomenally successful Glasgow Comic Con, Capital Comic Con, The Edinburgh Comic Art Festival, running 10th – 11th October 2015, will celebrate comic books and culture, with international guests and local creators on hand with a special emphasis on comic art.
Not to be confused with the annual US Capital City Comic Con in Austin, Texas, BHP says a top line up of artists, writers, letterers, colourists, editors, designers, publishers, distributors is being lined up, so it’s now looking like comic fans will face some hard choices of which event to support with the third Lakes International Comic Art Festival already announced for the following week – 16th – 18th October.
Capital Comic Con will be hosted at Summerhall, the old “vet school” which is now one of Edinburgh’s leading cultural centres. There will be panels, signings, stalls, cosplay events and much much more.
“The Capital Comic Con joins a stellar line-up we’ve got planned for 2015,” said a BHP spokesperson, “as Black Hearted Press celebrates its fifth birthday with over fourteen new comic releases, seven events and four graphic novels including Rom of the Reds by comic legends John Wagner & Alan Grant.”
The full BHP event line up for 2015 is as follows:
21st – 22nd February 2015: Sunderland Comic Con, The North East Comic Book Festival
Re-scehduled from August this year, confirmed guest so far include Hannah Berry, Rufus Dayglo, Dr Mel Gibson, Colin MacNeil, Nigel Parkinson, Tanya Roberts, Bryan Talbot, Mary Talbot
