Celebrating four years years of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast, co-hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates chat to Scotland Yardie co-creator Bobby Joseph.
Bobby’s early work includes the creation of Skank magazine, where Scotland Yardie, drawn by Joseph Samuels, first featured.
Bobby has written for The Guardian newspaper and Vice.com. His comic work was a prominent feature at the Anarchy in the UK comic exhibition at the British Library in 2015 and was seen by over 60,000 visitors.
He is also a vocal advocate for diversity and BAME representation in comic books and is credited on the BBC website as instrumental in featuring some of the “first comics by black creators featuring black characters.”
For this podcast, Bobby chats about his history and how it got into creating comics, as well as the future of Scotland Yardie, which has become the first BAME graphic novel to be studied as a module on an English Literature MA course at King’s College, London. Something creator Bobby told Bleeding Cool recently he is “pretty chuffed about“.
Also on the Podcast, Tom Stewart reviews Bubbles Fanzine, a zine about comics and manga, and Mike Williams and Pete Taylor continue with Comics Yakapedia, their project to review, amend and correct its many thousands of entries to ensure it remains to definitive library of comic trivia and nonsense.
