British specialist auction house Compalcomics has just launched its February 2021 catalogue, which includes a great mix of comic rarities and art from Frank Bellamy, Joe Colquhoun, Gerry Embleton and more.
The auction starts with some 1939 Dandy issues in pretty nice grades. Also from 1939 there’s a Mickey Mouse Weekly with very scarce Lone Ranger Mask free gift which the Compalcomics team tell us they have not seen before. Plus, check out the Mickey Mouse 1945 VE Day Victory Number and the Ovaltineys Own Comic – all 128 issues in a bound volume in impossibly high grades.
Also included in this auction is a near complete run of Rupert Adventure Series 1-50, and Whizz Bang Comic Annuals 1 and 2 are an exciting prospect for collectors, as wartime paper shortages severely limited distribution and these are rare.
The artwork selection features a Laurel and Hardy 30 panel story by George Wakefield, Terry-Thomas by Roy Wilson, Sexton Blake covers by Eric Parker, “Black Bob” by Jack Prout, Buffalo Bill Annual 12 covers signed by Denis McLoughlin, a Korky the Cat / Dandy cover by Bill Creighton, Jack and Jill by Pansy Potter creator, Hugh Mcneill, “Captain Condor” by Ron Forbes, “Karl the Viking” signed by Don Lawrence, TV Century 21’s “Stingray” by Gerry Embleton, Doctor Who by Gerry Haylock, “Charley’s War” signed by Joe Colquhoun, “Garth” signed by Frank Bellamy and Judge Dredd art by John Higgins.
One rare bird of note is the Eagle No 1 promotional issue from 1950, as are the first 199 issues of War Picture Library in 10 bound volumes, all Amalgamated Press file copies.
Compalcomics super run of first and early issues with their free gifts continues with Boy’s World, Diana, JAG, Twinkle, TV Toy Land, Valiant, Victor, Wham!, Captain Britain, Cor!!, Countdown, Mates, Popsworld and Hoot (who wouldn’t want its Purple Frog Pencil Topper?)
Finally, the US section includes Golden Age All-American, Detective Comics, Flash, Sensation and Superman comics, with Silver / Bronze Age long runs of Amazing Spider-Man between #2 – 220 and X-Men #4 – 209 with Frank Miller Daredevil, Tomb of Dracula #10 CGC and lots in between.
Postal and fax bids need to be with us by Friday 26th February 2021 and the Compalcomics team will enter them on your behalf in thesaleroom.com/Comic Book Auctions website closing on Sunday 28th February from 2.00 pm.
