Acclaimed Doctor Who Target Books and Radio Times cover artist Jeff Cummins will join the lineup of artists and comic creators at the upcoming Invasion Blackpool! event at Viva Blackpool on Sunday 30th April 2023.
Also appearing at this new event from Viva!, in association with Crusader Events – a brand new celebration weekend of all things Doctor Who to the town, which has celebrated the series for nearly 50 years – will be Cutaway Comics publisher Gareth Kavanagh, artist Adrian Salmon, writer Ian Winterton, and John Freeman, former editor of Doctor Who Magazine, comics writer and publisher, and current editor of Star Trek Explorer.
The event will includes Special Guests including Colin Baker, who played the Sixth Doctor, and Frazer Hines, who played companion Jaimie McCrimmon alongside Patrick Troughton, Signings and Prop Exhibitions, Interview Panels with on screen stars and behind the scenes heroes, Prop Displays, a Cosplay Contest, Stalls and Exclusive/Rare Merchandise, plus Signing and autograph opportunities.
Jeff Cummins kicked off his career as an artist illustrating covers for Kung Fu Monthly, (which made him the first ever artist to paint Bruce Lee commercially) and “The Bionic Man” and Tom Baker as Doctor Who followed for another of Felix Dennis’ magazines, TV SCI FI Monthly.
He went on illustrate classic covers for the Doctor Who Target novels range and, later, Doctor Who New Adventures for Virgin, several illustrated covers and inserts for BBC Radio Times and covers for BBC Books.
Jeff is also well known for his record cover work for Paul McCartney, (Wings Over America, Thrillington, Temporary Secretary, Say Say Say and This One), and working with Whitesnake, Yes, Silver Sun and album cover design gurus, Hipgnosis.
His recent book projects include The Invisible Artist and The Art of Silver Sun, for Candy Jar Books and a Keith Barnfather Doctor Who-related ‘Myth Maker’ documentary, and work with Doctor Who Magazine.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
