The Prison Paradox, a new Doctor Who comics series featuring The Fifteenth Doctor and companion Belinda Chandra is on its way from Titan Comics.
Launching in September, information in the first of a series of teasers on the BBC’s dedicated Doctor Who website suggests the new mini series is set sometime during the show’s latest season, when the Earth is unknown to others, destroyed by the Rani’s manipulations as part of her plan to resurrect Omega.
Written by Dan Watters (Doctor Who, Nightwing, Loki, Home Sick Pilots), with art by Sami Kivelä (Undone by Blood, Abbott, Machine Gun Wizards), Titan says the The Prison Paradox offers a Doctor Who adventure like no other.
In the new story, The Fifteenth Doctor (as played on screen by Ncuti Gatwa) and his companion in time and space, Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), and an unlikely team of allies, infiltrate an inescapable prison facility in a forgotten part of the universe, holding monsters and villains from across the cosmos.
Doctor Who: The Prison Paradox #1 features a range of covers by superstar artists Jay Anacleto, Nupini, Flops, and more, including a color-your-own-variant, and foil editions. Also available will be a cool connecting variant (across Issues #1-4) by series artist Sami Kivelä.
“This storyline is Titan Comics’ most ambitious yet,” Editor Jonathan Wilkins told Doctor Who TV, “as the Doctor and Belinda travel to a sinister space prison from which there is no escape. But who or what are the inmates – and who holds the keys to the cells?
“Writer Dan Watters takes us on a grand tour of the facility where mystery and danger lurk in every corner! Artist-extraordinaire Sami Kivelä joins the team to bring Dan’s epic story to life!
“Join us for an incredible adventure featuring some familiar faces and some exciting new characters making their debut in the Whoniverse!”
Dan Watters is a London-based writer who, in addition to Doctor Who, has written Nightwing: On with the Show for DC Comics, and crime and mystery comics for various independent publishers, including his creator-owned title Limbo for Image, Deep Roots for Vault Comics, The Shadow (with Si Spurrier) for Dynamite; and science fiction and fantasy comics based on video games for Wolfenstein, Dark Souls, and Assassin’s Creed for Titan Comics.
Sami Kivelä is a Finnish comic book artist, best known for titles such as Kosher Mafia and Deer Editor (for Mad Cave), Abbott (BOOM!), Undone By Blood (Aftershock), Machine Gun Wizards (Dark Horse), as well as Beautiful Canvas and Everfrost (Black Mask). He’s also illustrated several comics for Zenescope Entertainment, including Hit List and the Realm War: Age of Darkness series, which is a part of the Grimm Fairy Tales Universe. When not hunched over his drawing table or reading comics, he enjoys traveling, listening to metal music and watching TV with his wife.

Titan Comics celebrated ten years of publishing its line of Doctor Who comics last year with its first Fifteenth Doctor mini-series, Everyone Must Go, available in collection, also written by Dan Watters, with art from Kelsey Ramsay and Valentina Bianconi, pitting the Time Lord and companion Ruby Tuesday (Millie Gibson) against the Cybermen.
