The latest Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast comes brimming with interviews from the annual Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal, conducted by co-hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates.
“We chat about how the show was for us, what we enjoyed and what we saw,” says Ian. “We discuss the opening night, which saw Hannah Berry crowned the next Comics Laureate taking over from Charlie Adlard and Hunt Emerson winning the Sergio Aragones International Award for Excellence in Comic Art 2018 as well as all the happenings of the weekend.
Ian and Nikki also review the stunning Traces of the Great War, which was co-commissioned by the Festival.
We have loads of interviews as well including chats with Steve Gregson and Matt Simmons (Bastard Galaxia), Corey Brotherson (Magic of Myths), Dave Cook (Killtopia), Jens K Styve (Dunce), Robert Brown, Simon ‘Simo’ Simpson (The Needleman), Simon Richardson (The Unity Wall), Lyndon White (Candles), Myfanwy Tristram (Draw The Line), Tom Nash (Tut and Groan) and Owen Michael Johnson (Reel Love).

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
