How many of us have had a grumble at the new 5p carrier bag charge – and that’s for a cheap one?
Well, on Wednesday 29th November a vintage carrier bag from the once Palitoy Staff Shop in Coalville went under the hammer at Vectis Auctions and sold for a whopping £240!
The “Palitoy “We Care” bag carried logos from Palitoy products including Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back; Tente; Discovery Time; Play-Doh; Palectronics; Action Man; Chad Valley; Chic-a-boo; Strawberry Shortcake; Chad Valley and Mainline Railways, and was offered at a fairly cautious estimate of £20 – £30… But the iconic carrier certainly drew some interest.
Specialist Kathy Taylor believes it is the Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back logo which has commanded the most attention and bids.
So now we know, it’s not just the boxes we need to keep with our toys, but the bags too!
