Episode #107 of the excellent Doctor Who: Panel to Panel is live – and leads with Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott (Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four) chatting with podcast host Jeremy Bement about Doctor Who comics, history, the current season and more!
Offering news and more Jeremy also reviews the latest Thirteenth Doctor comic from Titan, and checks out The Freefall Warriors, created by Steve Parkhouse and Dave Gibbons for a two-part story that first featured in Doctor Who Monthly Issues 56-57, way back in 1981, which has been reprinted several times, including Marvel Comics US Doctor Who comic (#12) in 1984, in colour.
Supporting characters in the Fourth Doctor story along with alien author Ivan Asimoff, they later graduated to a solo tale, “A Ship Called Sudden Death” written by Steve Parkhouse with art by Dave Gibbons in the 1982 Doctor Who Summer Special, before having their origins revealed in a backup strip in the monthly Marvel UK title Captain Britain, in issues 1-4, drawn by Jerry Paris.
They also made a cameo in “Party Animals“, written by Gary Russell with art by Mike Collins, for Doctor Who Magazine 172, and were among characters conjured by the Eight Doctor to battle a vortex parasite in the story “A Matter of Life and Death” written by Alan Barnes, with art by Sean Longcroft and Martin Geraghty.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
