Westerhope-based auction house Anderson & Garland host the second part of an absolutely massive comic and comic art auction today, Wednesday 1st February 2023, offering hundreds of lots of British and American comics, including a “pence” copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, featuring the first appearance of Spider-Man.
The comics offered are from the archives of longtime collector Peter Hansen, now, sadly, being broken up, despite his many attempts to save them for the nation. The first part of the auction took place last month, as we reported here.
The Anderson & Garland auction features just over five hundred lots, and while most are of American titles, there are British comics on offer too, a small selection featured below, including runs of 2000AD, Marvel UK titles, and comic-related books, too.
Items on offer include Amazing Fantasy No. 15; Tales to Astonish No. 35; Daredevil No. 1; The Sub-Mariner No. 1; Conan No.1; thousands of US Silver Age and Bronze Age comics by Marvel, DC and independent publishers; British rarities from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s; Horror Magazines, and other comic-related books and publications.
Bidding is expected to be fierce on some lots, a similar “pence” copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 up for auction at present with Kings Langley-based Excalibur Auctions Ltd, that auction, taking place on Saturday, 4th February, attracting bids of £2800 so far. (That auction also includes many British comics, many with their free gifts).
