Langley and Jones – a company specialising in vintage collectables, toys, comics, annuals, movies, TV and sporting memorabilia – is hosting its first auction today in Cardiff and includes a number of rare British comic lots as well as other rare and collectable items, including a Dan Dare bust that may sell for up to £1500.
The auction items include a number of first issues, including TV Century 21 (with free gift), Eagle, Girl, Joe 90, and Mickey Mouse Weekly.

Job lots of British comics and annuals, spanning the 1950s through to the 1970s (one lot totalling some 700 comics), Victor summer specials, are also on offer, including a complete set of Star Wars UK Comics Number 1 to 117 published between February 1978 to May 1980.
For fans of Marvelman, there’s a lot of 27 comics, including Young Marvelman Annual and Marvelman Family, published by L Miller in the 1950s, and the first issue of the Italian Marvelman, published in the 1960s.

Collectables on offer include rare Dan Dare items, including a spaceship and ray gun, a and a huge range of Gerry Anderson show-inspired merchandise, including a Fireball XL5 Bagatelle released in 1963 in near mint condition with its original box, a Steve Zodiac decorated wallet and a Fireball XL5 ship 1962 by Quercetti that was regularly advertised in early issues of TV Century 21, very fine unused condition in original box.

Also going under the hammer is a limited edition Dan Dare bust by John Fowler, one of 20 replicas of the Dan Dare bronze unveiled in Southport on the 15th April 2000 to mark the 50th anniversary of Eagle. This bust is numbered 7 of 20 on the base.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Explorer (previously known as Star Trek Magazine) and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of "Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies" for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
