A launch party for the new art book celebrating the art of Fighting Fantasy, co-written by Sir Ian Livingstone CBE and Fighting Fantasy historian Jonathan Green, will take place at the Barnes Bookshop on Thursday 5th September, with Sir Ian in attendance.
Sir Ian, one of the founding fathers of the UK games industry, will also be signing copies of the new Magic Realms book at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, London, on Saturday 14th September.
Sir Ian co-founded iconic company Games Workshop in 1975 and is currently Non-executive Chairman of Sumo Group plc. His game books, such as the long-running Fighting Fantasy series, empower readers through choice and are recognised for raising literacy levels in children. A leading advocate for “the power of play” through games-based learning and digital creativity, he is trustee of the Foundation for Education Development.
Magic Realms, which looks to be an absolutely essential collector’s item for any Fighting Fantasy fan, goes on general sale from 5th September, celebrates the incredible art of the brilliant and highly respected fantasy and science fiction artists who, over the years, worked with the Fighting Fantasy authors to bring their interactive adventures to vivid life.
Each artist is profiled along with select examples of their best work – in vibrant full colour, the astonishing detail on display in all its glory. It features the work some of the world’s best fantasy artists including Chris Achilléos, John Blanche, Jim Burns, Les Edwards, Karl Kopinski, Iain McCaig, Martin McKenna, Ian Miller and Russ Nicholson, among others.
Jonathan Green is a freelance writer of speculative fiction, with more than seventy books to my name. Well known for my contributions to the Fighting Fantasy range of adventure gamebooks, and numerous Black Library publications, he’s also written fiction for such diverse properties as Doctor Who, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Sonic the Hedgehog, Judge Dredd, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Jonathan is also the creator of the Pax Britannia series for Abaddon Books. In 2015 he also put a dark, steampunk spin on a children’s classic, when he published Alice’s Nightmare in Wonderland, the first in the ACE Gamebooks series.
