Fighting Fantasy Fest is back to mark 40 years of Sir Ian Livingstone’s bestselling Fighting Fantasy gamebook, Deathtrap Dungeon.
40 years ago, were you brave enough to enter evil Baron Sukhumvit’s devilish dungeon and take part in his Trial of Champions? It’s a trap-filled and monster-infested labyrinth where you’ll compete against five other adventurers to collect certain gems, which are the key to escaping and winning the Trial.
The multi-million copy globally bestselling choose-your-own-adventure series was repackaged and reignited for a brand new generation by Scholastic, back in 2018.
Fighting Fantasy Fest 5 will be the fifth dedicated Fighting Fantasy convention, featuring Guests of Honour Sir Ian Livingstone and artist Iain McCaig, who will be giving a talk and signing books on the day, including the latest Fighting Fantasy release from Scholastic Books – The Dungeon on Blood Island by Sir Ian Livingstone, with cover art by Iain McCaig, due for general release on 12th September.
Fighting Fantasy Fest 5 will also feature other talks and panels, gaming sessions, signings, a selection of traders, and numerous other special guests, including World Fantasy Award-winning publisher Marc Gascoigne, children’s author Paul Mason, author, editor, publisher Peter Darvill-Evans, best known for Fighting Fantasy and Doctor Who books, Jamie Thomson, a longtime writer of books and computer games, author Dave Morris (whose work includes the graphic novel series Mirabilis with artist Leo Hartas, and much more) and Jonathan Green, along with Fighting Fantasy artists Malcolm Barter and Tony Hough, with more to be announced.
Price of adult entry includes a collectible programme and autograph book, and a themed lanyard permitting entry to the infamous Deathtrap Dungeon.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
