Sneak Peek: Check out the new 2000AD-inspired mega-sized ZARJAZ Sci-Fi Special

ZARJAZ, an independently published comic featuring characters from 2000AD, is back, produced with kind permission from Rebellion on a not-for-profit basis.

Available to preorder now, the 116-page  ZARJAZ Sci-Fi Special 2024, with a cover from Brett Burbridge, offers a staggering 18 brand-new stories featuring hordes of classic 2000AD characters – and we’re told there will be more than a few surprises in the mix.

The Special includes a wide variety of strips, such as “Judge Dredd – Green is the New Grey”, written by Tom Davies, with art by Chris Geary; “Robo-Hunter – House of Droids”, written by Michael Crouch, with art by Rob Anthony; “Strontium Dog”, written by Tom Davies, with art by Bob Brice; “The V.C.s – The Holo-Man” written by Craig Dawson with art by Brett Burbridge; and “Walter the Wobot – Membership Wevoked”, written by Leo Healy, with art by Paul Malone.

The zine also includes a one-page “Judge Dudd” humour strip by Mark Bennington, a spoof character created for Buster in 1986, and Mark is also interviewed about his career.

A whole year in the making, this special relaunch issue will include a mixture of colour and black and white stories – and for the first time since 2002, it will be published in glorious large format!

ZARJAZ is a not-for-profit publication and our use of Rebellion characters means we cannot offer a KickStarter like other small-press comics,” the title’s editor publisher, Andrew Lewis, explains. “However, opening it up for pre-sale will enable us to finance publication with professional printers.”

Andrew, a lifelong comic fan and 1970s horror films devotee, was the original creator and editor of ZARJAZ, which went on to be published by Futurequake Press until the unexpected death of the fondly remembered Dave Evans. Andrew returns to the role determined to deliver thrills reminiscent of the golden age of 2000AD, but with a modern sensibility.

The print-run of this special issue is strictly limited, based on pre-sales.

“Simply put, if we receive ten pre-orders we’ll print ten copies,” Andrew explains. “If we receive 500, we’ll print 500. This means that you will only guarantee your copy through pre-order.

Copies of ZARJAZ Sci-Fi Special 2024 will be sent out towards the end of September.
