The New York Adventure Club has announced Robert Crumb: The Greatest Cartoonist of Our Time, a Webinar hosted by pop culture historian Arlen Schumer, taking place on Monday 20th November 2023.
If you can’t make it live you can still register and get access to the full replay for one week. Tickets are $10.
In many ways, American cartoonist Robert Crumb was the “Bob Dylan of Comics” during the 1960s — just like Dylan did for music, Crumb opened up the field of comics for individual self-expression. Why is he considered “The Father of Underground Comics” and what’s the significance of his ongoing body of work that documents the birth, life, and aging of America’s Baby Boom Generation?
It’s time to uncover the incredible artistic, autobiographic, and journalistic talent of an American cartoonist icon.
Join New York Adventure Club as they explore a “greatest hits” of the vast catalogue of comic artworks by American cartoonist Robert Crumb — from his earliest comics as a teenager coming of age in the late1950s and Underground Comix explosion in the ‘60s, to his decade-defining works of the ‘70s and eye-opening artworks of the 21st century.
Arlen Schumer is one of America’s foremost historians of comic book art; his coffeetable art book, The Silver Age of Comic Book Art won the Independent Book Publishers Award for Best Popular Culture Book. He’s a recognised expert on the work of Hall of Fame comic book artist Neal Adams (see The Neal Adams Sketchbook, among other articles, VisuaLectures and webinars). Join his Facebook groups, Neal Adams Almanack, JacKirby & Kompany and The Silver Age of Comic Book Art.
