New British news stand comics / magazine on sale this week include 2000AD Prog 2153, Judge Dredd: The Megazine Issue 413 – and the smashing Scream and Misty presents The Thirteenth Floor: Home Sweet Home, all on sale today; plus the latest Beano, Commando, The Phoenix and more.
Home Sweet Home is a 48-page special filled with the best chills that British comics can deliver, centring on “The Thirteenth Floor” first seen in Scream, where the homicidal caretaker computer Max puts those he doesn’t like – a mysterious floor of the tower block he controls where he keeps their worst fears. Few, if any, survive if they get on Max’s wrong side. There’s some great art throughout by veteran artists such as John Stokes and Tom Paterson, alongside creators that include Abigail Harding and Kelley Jones. Definitely one to track down!
2000AD Prog 2153, with a great cover by Dylan Teague, features new episodes of “Judge Dredd”, “Defoe”, “Brink”, “The Fall of Deadworld” and “Hope…Under Fire”
Brand new issues of DC Thomson Media’s Commando (Issues 5271 – 5274) are on sale tomorrow, Thursday 17th October in all good newsagents and via digital platforms — stories detailed here that include a World War Two set thriller involving a Nazi Wellington bomber, a propaganda hero – and a cursed Cornishman!
With a cover by Cliff Robinson and Dylan Teague, Judge Dredd Megazine Issue 413 features a new “Judge Dredd” story, “Bad Wiring”, “Tales from the Black Museum – Tainted Love”, “Diamond Dogs”, “The Returners – Chandhu”, and “Anderson – Psi-division- The Dead Run”. This issue’s supplement episodes include “Defoe – The London Hanged” and “Past Imperfect- The Man They Couldn’t Hang” and “Past Imperfect – The Great War”
Also on sale are Adventure Box Issue 238, a 68-page “chapterbook” with added facts and fun for 6-9 yr olds which includes a comic strip; Beano 4007 – featuring Dennis and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx and many more; and The Phoenix Issue 406, featuring: “Gorebrah”, “Bunny vs Monkey”, “Sigismond’s Neighbourhood”, “The Night’s Realm Competition”, “Corpse Talk” (Bram Stoker’s Dracula), “Squid Bits”, “Legacy”, and much more!
Doctor Who Magazine – the 40th Anniversary issue (544) is also on sale, as noted here, continuing a great strip featuring the Thirteenth Doctor and a full page affectionate humour strip from Lew Stringer looking back at the origins of the magazine – guest-starring the one and only comics editor and publisher Dez Skinn, no less!
All these titles are available from newsagents, including WHSmith, and some are available in supermarkets – and don’t forget the Beano and Dandy annuals are also now on sale! (But no Marvel Heroes or Spider-Man annuals this, it seems…)
