The latest episode of the excellent Doctor Who comics-focused podcast, Doctor Who – Panel to Panel, features an interview with current Titan Comics editor Jake Devine.
Jake discusses what it’s been like over the past couple years being in charge of the Doctor Who comic for the company, negotiating a pandemic and more.
Jake entered the comics industry as an intern at Titan Comics, and was later hired as an editorial assistant, becoming editor of the Doctor Who comics line in 2019. As a longtime fan of Who, he was more than happy to take on the role, despite being his first major editorial gig.
During the interview, Jake discusses how Titan approached their role in the Doctor Who crossover event, Time Lord Victorious, working with James Goss and others. He also reveals how the company kept working on new projects through the pandemic, preparing for publishing again.
Jake reveals they had a whole year of Thirteenth Doctor stories, but the pandemic threw that plan out, so instead, the Doctor Who: Missy project became the focus of the company’s energies, to properly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the debut of the Master.
Jake does touch on what might have been had the pandemic not disrupted schedules, but also hints that the company sought to do different things when it came to Doctor Who.
In terms of future plans, he didn’t officially confirm that there are plans for a River Song comic, touched on during the Comic_Con@Home panel recently, but he does talk about how pleased he is to be working on the new Eighth Doctor crossover.
Host Jeremy Bement also checks out the latest comic news – although at time of recording, little had been announced, and reviews the final issue of Doctor Who: Missy.
