London’s Jam Bookshop is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the work of Private Eye cartoonist Tony Husband, who, sadly, died suddenly last month.
It includes a number of his “Yobs” cartoon strips from Private Eye, and work from OiNK, the children’s comic he co-created.
The bookshop also has a limited number of Tony’s books for sale, including titles such as The Ups and Downs of Being a Grandparent and Another Pair of Underpants.

Award-winning cartoonist, lyricist, poet and writer Tony Husband was the creator of “Yobs” for Private Eye, co-creator of Oink! comic, and author of Take Care, Son.
Much-loved and admired, Tony, who had been cartooning since 1984, had a heart attack on his way to a Private Eye party in London in October, collapsing on Westminster Bridge. He was 73.
Tony co-founded and co-edited Oink! comic, and its TV spin-off, Round The Bend, for Hat Trick Productions, contributed to publications such as The Oldie, as cartoonist and writer, Punch, The Sun and The Times, and had more than 40 books published, many taking a satirical look at a wide variety of subjects and obsessions such as football, animal husbandry and Yorkshire puddings. For the theatre, he co-wrote a play and accompanying book, Save The Human, with David Wood, in 1991.
“Yobs” began in Husband’s hippy days when some skinheads beat him up. In revenge, he drew them spraying a wall, asking: “How do you spell NF?”

The Jam Bookshop opened in 2022 in the heart of creative Shoreditch, London, after a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign, owned and run by acclaimed illustrator and journalist David Ziggy Greene. Along with new books, stock includes graphic novels and independent comics.
• Exhibition – Yobs, Tortoise & Martial Bliss runs until 17th December 2023 at The Jam Bookshop, 61A Hackney Road, London E2 7NX | Follow Jam Bookshop on X
