Comics become a lens on epilepsy: Comic book creator Peter Milligan has been discussing imbuing psychedelia and horror in his new AfterShock titles, Out of Body with art by Inaki Miranda, out next week (2nd June), and God of Tremors, out on 18th August with art by Piotr Kowalski, over at CBR.com.
Peter, who has epilepsy, talks extensively about he decided to write about a young man who develops it in God of Tremors, “and who finds something through which he channels his feelings, something that becomes a kind of god of epilepsy”. Events last year helped hone the story, he reveals.
Comic-Watch reports Marvel Comics has delivered a sneak peek to Voices: Pride 1, their first ever Queer focused comic, on sale in comic shops from 23rd June, just in time to celebrate Pride Month. This issue boasts some of the biggest LGBTQ+ creators in the business, like Leah Williams, Keiron Gillen, Olivier Coipel, Steve Orlando, Vita Ayala, Kris Anka, Javier Garron and many more, telling stories about Marvel’s ever growing cast of Queer characters. The comic will also explore the history of the LGBTQ+ movement of inclusivity in storytelling, as well as an interview with former associate editor, Chris Cooper.
CBR recently reported US publisher Legendary Comics has unveiled the first five graphic novels in its young adult line. The YA imprint consists of the previously announced Championess and Tragic, alongside The Heart Hunter. Rounding out the slate is Lupina and The Witches of Silverlake. Legendary Comics YA confirmed that it was “dedicated to telling original and character-driven stories across a wide array of genres.” Legendary Comics is online at legendary.com/comics/
The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
