Upcoming Sworders auction of Modern and Contemporary Art sees Dennis the Menace offered alongside Picasso!

Artworks from The Beano, The Dandy and SMASH! are included in an upcoming auction at Essex-based auction house Sworders, nestling alongside art and prints by Sir Peter Blake, Terrance Cuneo, Barry Fantoni, Dame Barbara Hepworth, David Hockney, LS Lowry, Pablo Picasso, and photographs by David Bailey and others.

Biffo the Bear” and “Desperate Dan” artworks, and more, feature in the upcoming auction of Modern and Contemporary Art many items from the David and Pam McCleave Collection, amassed over decades, including a number of British newspaper cartoons.

Comic artists whose work features in the auction include, possibly, Leo Baxendale, Charles Grigg (more commonly known as Charlie Grigg), David Law, James McConnell, Dudley D Watkins, and work by cartoonists such as JAK, Larry, Stanley McMurtry (aka Mac), saucy postcard maestro Donald McGill, and Gerald Scarfe.

Children’s illustrators work by artists such as Edward Ardizzone is also included.
