With all his comrades gone and his lover, Nina Petrova, lost somewhere in the maelstrom, the “Red Devil” knows his own doom is only a matter of time. Maybe the next mission, or the one after that – but it’s coming.
When a figure from the distant past reappears with an offer of a clandestine operation – an all-out effort against a nightmarish enemy weapons program that could claim the lives of thousands – Johnny finds himself agreeing, despite terrible misgivings. The risks are many, but the prize is the whereabouts of the woman he loves – and Johnny Red will fly through hell for Nina Petrova, no matter what the cost. Yet the unspeakable cruelty of the Soviet hierarchy, not to mention the return of an old and lethal enemy, will push the Englishman’s resolve well past the breaking point. Action – Before the Ban 1: The Archival Collection

Paperback | 368 Pages
ISBN: 978-1837866694
• Action: The Sevenpenny Nightmare Micro Site – compiled by Moose Harris
CELEBRATING SIXTY YEARS OF BRITAIN’S MOST CONTROVERSIAL COMIC!
Violent, gritty and unrelenting, Action comic was the brainchild of Pat Mills and Geoff Kemp. Tasked with creating a new anthology comic for the IPC’s boys adventure division, the pair rapidly developed a winning formula: reimagining existing story ideas from fresh perspectives and infusing them with a health dose of modern realism. With strips such as “Hookjaw”, “Dredger”, “Look Out For Lefty” and “Blackjack”, success was instantaneous but so was the criticism. Many of the press including London’s Evening Standard, The Sun and the Daily Mail were quick to denounce the comic, while Mary Whitehouse and the pressure group, Delegates Opposing Violent Education, piled pressure on the IPC board to do something about it.
In less than a year, Action had been pulled from circulation, then returned months later, a sanitised, pale shadow of its former self. But the spark had already been lit. Action had made its mark and became the catalyst for the evolution of the British comics scene, pathing the way for 2000AD and the British invasion of UK talent into America.
Collected here are the first twelve issues of Action, containing all of the strips and some of the editorial that created so much infamy back in the 1970s.

About The Authors
Pat Mills is the creator and first editor of 2000AD. He developed Judge Dredd and is the writer-creator of many of 2000AD’s most popular stories such as “Sláine”, “Nemesis the Warlock” and “A.B.C. Warriors”. Amongst his credits are Marshal Law (Marvel and DC Comics), co-created with Kevin O’Neill, the French graphic novel series Requiem, Vampire Knight with artist Olivier Ledroit, and Be Pure! Be Vigilant! Behave! The Secret History of 2000 AD and Judge Dredd. His current projects include Joe Pineapples: Tin Man, illustrated by Simon Bisley and Clint Langley, Spacewarp, and Kiss My Axe! The Secret History of Sláine the Warped Warrior.
John Wagner has been scripting for 2000AD for more years than he cares to remember. His creations include Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Ace Trucking, Al’s Baby, Button Man and Mean Machine. Outside of 2000AD, his credits include Star Wars, Lobo, The Punisher and the critically acclaimed A History of Violence.
One of the most prolific writers in the comic’s history, Gerry Finley-Day holds a special place in many 2000AD fans’ hearts as the creator of classics like “Rogue Trooper” (with Dave Gibbons), “Fiends of the Eastern Front” and “The V.C.s”, as well as “Harry 20 on the High Rock” and “Ant Wars”. A keen “ideas man”, Finley-Day’s concepts of the horrors future warfare had in store were key to both “Rogue Trooper” and “The V.C.s” continuing popularity, ensuring that their recent return to the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic was well-received. Finley-Day also scripted episodes of “Judge Dredd” and “Dan Dare”, and co-scripted much of “Invasion!” (and entirely scripted the prequel story, “Disaster 1990!”).
Steve MacManus was the editor of 2000AD during its 1980s heyday, shepherding it through its ‘Golden Age’ as he commissioned numerous hit series such as “The Ballad of Halo Jones”, “Sláine”, “Rogue Trooper”, “Nemesis the Warlock” and more. For many, he remains the definitive editor of the multi-award-winning SF anthology.
Kelvin Gosnell served as 2000AD’s second editor, from Progs 17 to 85 (18th June 1977 – 7th October 1978). He also wrote “Blackhawk”, “Dan Dare”, “A Joe Black Adventure”, “Judge Dredd”, “Project Overkill”, “Ro-Jaws’ Robo-Tales”, “The Stainless Steel Rat” and “Tharg’s Future Shocks”, as well as co-writing the first series of “Flesh”.
Tom Tully was one the most prolific writers ever to grace British comics, his diverse portfolio of work produced over four decades. Born in Glasgow, Tully entered the industry in the sixties when he began working for Fleetway. One of his earliest strips, “Heros the Spartan”, ran in the original Eagle and was illustrated by the great Frank Bellamy. He also wrote “Mytek the Mighty” (for Valiant) and “The Steel Claw” (also for Valiant) in the same decade. The 1970s saw Tully work on a variety of significant stories including “Adam Eterno” (Thunder), “Johnny Red” (Battle), “Harlem Heroes” (2000AD), “The Leopard from Lime Street” (Buster) and “Roy of the Rovers” (Tiger), the strip he worked on longer than any other writer.

The anniversary edition of the classic UK/US team up crossover comic, is presented in an oversized format, with rescanned and cleaned up artwork to present Simon Bisley’s influential work in a glorious new light.
John Wagner has been scripting for 2000AD for more years than he cares to remember. His creations include Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Ace Trucking, Al’s Baby, Button Man and Mean Machine. Outside of 2000AD his credits include Star Wars, Lobo, The Punisher and the critically acclaimed A History of Violence.
With over 300 2000AD stories to his name – not to mention over 250 Daily Star Judge Dredd strips – Alan Grant’s prolific creative record speaks for itself. Outside the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, the late writer is well-known to Batman fans following a lengthy run on various incarnations of the title.
Simon Bisley occupies an almost unique place in 2000AD history, as one of the first UK artists to popularise the fully-painted style pioneered by Argentinian artist Alberto Breccia. His highly dynamic artwork made his two major series in the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic — A.B.C. Warriors: The Black Hole and Sláine: The Horned God — very popular, as they remain to date. He also illustrated Heavy Metal Dredd in the Megazine, an ultra-graphic, adults-only take on the lawman, before going on to pencil the hugely successful first Batman/Judge Dredd crossover story, Judgement on Gotham. Bisley has provided countless pin-ups and short pieces across an astonishing variety of comics, from legendary fantasy anthology Heavy Metal to anarchic DC superhero series Lobo, and has an even more extensive CV in Europe, where his painted style enjoys enormous success.

The third volume of the complete, acclaimed Slaine epic, presented in a new format for the definitive reading experience, perfect for new readers and collectors.
The Definitive line continues with the highly regarded fantasy saga Sláine. This reimagining of Celtic mythology mixed with sword-and-sorcery tropes stood out in the predominantly science fiction anthology 2000AD, and it proved to be a testing ground for many acclaimed artists.
In this third volume, the Celtic hero continues his arduous journey across Tir-Nan-Og, accompanied by his sidekick Ukko, and faces a slew of mighty warriors, vengeful gods, and legendary beasts in his quest to return to his tribe and claim his rightful place as king. This seminal epic by Pat Mills features the artwork of David Lloyd (V for Vendetta), Glenn Fabry (Hellblazer, Preacher), and Mike Collins (American Gothic).
Pat Mills is the creator and first editor of 2000AD. He developed Judge Dredd and is the writer-creator of many of 2000AD’s most popular stories such as Sláine, Nemesis and A.B.C. Warriors.
Mike Collins is the illustrator and co-creator of American Gothic. He has also worked on Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper Sinister Dexter, Sláine and several Future Shocks.
Glenn Fabry is a classic 2000 AD artist, best known for his innovative and highly detailed work on Slaine, though he has also illustrated Judge Dredd and a Future Shock, not to mention part of the Batman/Judge Dredd crossover story ‘Die Laughing’. Fabry’s best-known work outside the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic is almost certainly the full run of covers he painted for Preacher. However, his career is split between covers and sequential work, and he ahs also contributed to A1, The Authority, Global Frequency, Hellblazer, The Scarab, Swamp Thing and Transmetropolitan.
British-born writer, artist and letterer Steve Parkhouse started his career at Marvel comics where he worked on Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Back in the UK he was one of the first artists to work on the acclaimed anthology Warrior, co-creating The Bojeffries Saga with writer Alan Moore and he also worked for Marvel UK, writing Night Raven which was illustrated by David Lloyd and The Black Knight – both of which ran in Hulk Weekly. Having enjoyed a successful run writing Dr. Who Weekly with Dave Gibbons on art chores, Steve also illustrated several strips for 2000 AD, including Judge Dredd, Luke Kirby and Morrison and Millar’s Big Dave.

However, the lure of Comics was too strong and he came back to 2000 AD and has drawn Future Shocks, Pulp Sci-Fi, Tharg’s Terror Tales, Sinister Dexter, Damnation Station, but he is probably best known for his work on Judge Dredd. By T.C. Eglington (Writer), Simon Davis (Artist)
Out: Scheduled for 8th October 2026
Paperback | 224 pages
ISBN: 978-1837868629
Britain, 2019.
The secluded rural village of Harrowvale holds a dark past: years earlier, on a farm bordering the woods, a cult—led by the charismatic Jasper Hillman—sought to escape civilisation and find purity in the old ways, namely worshipping an ancient deity called Thistlebone. The cult’s pagan beliefs grew so deranged that they kidnapped a young girl, Avril Eason, with the intention of sacrificing her. But Avril escaped… and now, so many years later, she returns to Harrowvale to face the demons of her past.
Haunting and visceral, The Complete Thistlebone collects volumes 1-3 of the acclaimed folk horror series by T.C. Eglington and Simon Davis.
Tom Eglington began writing for 2000AD in 2010, his first work being on a Steve Yeowell illustrated “Future Shock”, “Universal Masterchef”. Since then, he has gone on to create scripts for numerous “Future Shocks”, “3rillers”, “Time Twisters” and “Mega-City One Tales”. He has created original series “Outlier”, “Blunt” and “Thistlebone”. His run of scripts on “Judge Dredd” has seen him work with Boo Cook, Brendan McCarthy, Colin MacNeil, and Staz Johnson. His work beyond the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic includes two children’s novels, and he is known as an artist, with work appearing in galleries as far afield as New York, LA and Australia.
Simon Davis divides his time between comic work and portrait painting and is a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters (RP). Davis began working in comics in the early 1990s but has also worked as a storyboard artist and magazine illustrator. Among the many characters that he has drawn for 2000AD, he is probably best known for his work on “Sinister Dexter” with Dan Abnett, “Stone Island” and “Ampney Crucis” with Ian Edginton, and “Slaine: The Brutania Chronicles” with Pat Mills.

“The Falcons are yours now, Johnny. Protect them from this madness that men bring upon each other.”
It is 1941.
Kicked out of the Royal Air Force for striking an officer, trainee pilot Johnny Redburn finds himself on a British merchant vessel, part of a supply convoy bound for the beleaguered USSR. When the Germans attack he takes to the skies in the ship’s sole fighter aircraft – and is very soon fighting for his life. Yet Johnny’s real struggle begins when he joins Russia’s Falcon Squadron, a fighter unit abandoned by its superiors, the pilots expected to sacrifice themselves against the Nazi invaders.
So begins the legend of the Red Devil, as the young Englishman and his Russian comrades fling themselves against the foe in one dreadful battle after another: Leningrad, Murmansk, Stalingrad, each more terrible than the last. Assailed by both the German Air Force and the Soviet secret police, Johnny and the Falcons fly into peril alongside the Angels of Death, the all-woman night bomber squadron led by the beautiful Nina Petrova. As the carnage intensifies and casualties mount, Johnny Red must fight for the lives of his squadron – before the war devours them all.
The first in a series collecting Johnny Red in its entirety, this volume presents the complete two-year run by original artist Joe Colquhoun (Charley’s War), written by co-creator Tom Tully (Roy of the Rovers): a British comics classic, quite simply the greatest aerial combat strip of all time.

Keep Watching the Stars!
In 1978, IPC launched a weekly companion comic to 2000AD aimed at an older audience and boasting higher production values – its name was Starlord.
A plethora of the best comics writers and artists in the UK ensured the new series was a success. These included 2000AD’s creator, Pat Mills; co-creators of Judge Dredd, John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra; future Watchmen artist, Dave Gibbons; legendary 2000AD and Batman writer, Alan Grant; and The Ballad of Halo Jones co-creator, Ian Gibson.
Despite outselling 2000AD, it was merged into the galaxy’s greatest comic after just 22 issues. Against the policy of the time, 2000AD was the title that was kept. But the legacy of Starlord lives on with its standout strips “Strontium Dog” and “Ro-Busters” (a fore-runner of “A.B.C Warriors”) occupying a place in the hearts of many comic readers to this day.
This book collects Starlord starzines 1-12 and the Starlord Summer Special

In Berlin, 1945, the Allies unleashed Maximan to take on the German super soldier Masterman. Maximan’s defeat was only kept secret by the nuclear bomb that destroyed both men. Forty-plus years later, and twenty years after a generation of ’60s British superpowered heroes came and went, the teenage pop star Zenith is the only superhuman left. His only interests – women, drugs, alcohol and fame. So, when he is contacted about the threat from the many-angled ones and the impending destruction of our world, his first reaction is to steer well clear. But the superhumans of the past have other plans…
Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell’s ground-breaking superhero odyssey is back and presented for the first time in full colour. From the pages of 2000 AD, this beloved classic represents a highpoint in the fifty-year history of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic. Lovingly coloured by JP Jordan, sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll has never looked so good.
