Modesty Blaise - an episode throw “The Long Lever”

Heritage Auctions is offering this lovely “Modesty Blaise” original by the strip’s first artist, Jim Holdaway, in one of its latest auctions.

An episode from “The Long Lever”, written by Peter O’Donnell, the art is described as being #194, published on 30th May 1964.

A high point from the second Modesty Blaise serial, the art features both Modesty and Willie Garvin.

Modesty Blaise, first published in the London Evening Standard, was created by author Peter O’Donnell and artist Jim Holdaway in 1963 and follows Modesty, an exceptional young woman with many talents and a criminal past, and her trusty sidekick Willie Garvin.

The strip was adapted into films in 1966, 1982, and 2003, and, from 1965 onwards, eleven novels and two short story collections were written.

The strip features in the first Titan Books collection of the strip, The Gabriel Set-Up.

The auction also includes art by Ken Barr, Wayne Boring, Fritz Freleng, Gil Kane, Barry Kitson and others.
