A new indie comic, Capital P, from the creative team of writer Sam Gardner Jr and artist Jerome Canty, has just launched, which pits a hero with a conscience against a villain with none.
The first part of a twelve-issue comic book maxi-series, Sam pitches the book as centring on “a hero with a no killing rule. A villain with a death sentence. And a lawman standing between them.”
Capital P was launched at DevCon Plymouth earlier this month to an overwhelmingly positive reaction and continues to grow internationally online and at in person at events throughout the UK, the first issue praised for its gripping story – and a twist ending.
“It’s the story of a masked man with a no killing rule who subdues a criminal,” Sam expands. “Things get complicated when he hands him over to a justice system that may be at odds with his beliefs.”
In the city of Chicago, cold winds aren’t the only thing that cut through the night. A killer is on the loose and a masked man with a Capital P on his chest is first at the scene. Raised on four colour concepts of morality by the comic books that inspired his calling, this city’s newest protector must come to terms with a very chilling discovery. He’ll have to learn what that means for him, in a world that’s a far cry from the pages of a superhero story. This is not a simple tale of good triumphing over evil…
Capital P is published by Capeverse Comics, a label set up by Sam and his wife, Chloe, and the book launched accompanied by an immersive first look at the comic on video, complete with cinematic music and an American voice cast.
Sam Gardner Jr has had work previously published in the Comichaus anthology and Starburst magazine and has had a comic that sings and another that unfolds into a superhero costume archived in the V&A Musuem of Art & Design. His previous work has been described as “remarkable” by Bleeding Cool’s Rich Johnston. He’s also had stories featured in the Pilgrim Strips/Tamar Brigade anthologies, and has worked with Big Punch Studios.
Jerome Canty has drawn comics for Futurequake Press, Something Wicked, Grey Haven Comics and Phoenix Publishing and Media. He’s also contributed sequential art for stories in The Psychedelic Journal of The Wild, Wild West and the Journal of Wizardry. Outside comics, Jerome he’s provided concept art for the horror movie, Siren Song.
