The team behind Sector 13, the Belfast-based not-for-profit 2000AD-inspired comic zine, have just released a “Silent Special” dominated by a clever story created by George O’Shea.
Offering 44 pages of ‘silent’ comic stories with no dialogue or captions and only the art to tell the story this A5-size ‘Silent Special’ comes with a striking cover from Pete Stewart, plus spot illustrations by David Broughton and Kevin Mustoe, as newcomers to Sector 13, George O’Shea and Torgo Wells, weave their magic on two stories: “The Rescue“, a tale of the Strontium Dog himself, Johnny Alpha and “Eleos“, inspired, perhaps in part at least, by the work of artists Philippe Druillet.
“We’d decided that there would be no more of the regular numbered editions of Sector 13,” editor Peter Duncan tells us, “but where we found something we thought was different and interesting enough and which might not find a natural home elsewhere, we thought we would continue to produce the odd special issue.
“This is our first, the Sector 13 ‘Silent Special’. Two tales, told without dialogue or captions, depending solely on the art to tell the story.”
• Sector 13 ‘Silent Special’ costs £6 inc UK P&P or, during March and April, comes free with orders for the three part seventh edition of the zine (£21) or full sets of all seven issues of Sector 13 (£38) | More details at boxofrainmag.co.uk/sector-13/
