Colossive Cartographies – a small but perfectly formed comics and illustration project

Small but feisty British independent publisher Colossive Press have announced that subscriptions for the first six issues of Colossive Cartographies are now open.

The project is an attempt from the Penge-based publisher, whose books also include such titles as the intriguing Ad Astra Per Croydon: The Lost History of London’s Forgotten Spaceport and the eye-catching book of unusual London photographs, More Things My Dad Saw (But Never Bothered Mentioning, all profits from the latter going to support local Penge-based hospice St Christopher’s, to create a print equivalent of a series of 7-inch singles.

Using a Turkish map fold, Colossive Press are collaborating with writers and artists to bring an unpredictable range of visual practice into a hand-folded treat.

The publications pop open from an A6 cover into an A4 sheet, and cost £2 each, excluding postage costs. But you can also take out a six-issue subscription for £10 (again, excluding postage).

“Very excited to be a part! I’m finishing mine this week,” says Lucy.

“We’re thrilled at the different directions these have gone in, and we’ve got some more fantastic creators lined up for the second ‘season’,” the Colossive Press team commented on Twitter.

Colossive Press is a zine-publisher and small press established in Penge, South East London, by Tom Murphy and Jane Gibbens Murphy.

Why Colossive? It’s a word Tom’s father coined for something that was Awful Big Altogether.

The publisher has done some amazing fund raising work for its local hospice, St. Christophers, through sales of some of its titles and other activities. Do check them out.
