“System Shock” with fantastic art from Rob Richardson, lettered by Annie Parkhouse, is a real treat, the first of a spree of one-off “Dredd” tales from Dan, and he’s in fire with this one, in a Rage Against the Machine tale centring on a Mega City citizen declared legally dead. If you’ve ever had to fill out any kind of official paperwork, you’ll identify with this one…

“If I’m prolific, it means that people keep coming back for more”

If you can’t enough of Dan’s work, by the way, you may want to check out his approach to his work in the first part of a two-part interview for, of all things, LA: Local Authority, an award-winning independent news blog, covering local news, politics, culture, and the weirder side of the Medway area in Kent.

Steven Keevil chats with Dan and partner, and fellow author Nik Vincent about how they came to start writing together, and more. It’s a great read, Dan talking about how he started writing and drawing from age eight or nine, so I think you can say creating stuff is in his blood. I’m looking forward to Part Two.

John Freeman

John  is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.

He’s the writer of  comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
