Dan Dare is returning to BBC radio, with broadcasts of the first three audio adventures from B7 Media on BBC Radio 4 Extra next month.
The first three episodes (Volume One) of the Dan Dare – The Audio Adventures starring Ed Stoppard as Dan Dare, Geoff McGivern as Digby, Heida Reed as Professor Peabody and Raad Rawi as The Mekon will now be broadcast as two-parters (but not a conventional half-hour) from Sunday 5th August at 6.30pm – 7.00pm.
The return to the BBC thanks to B7 Media for Dan Dare has been in the works for a while, and hopefully the broadcasts will generate new fans for the series it was a privilege to be involved with as Creative Consultant.
The full first six episode season of Dan Dare – The Audio Adventures , which recently won a Gold NYF Award for Best Digital Drama, is of course also available to download or buy.
B7 Media will be at this year’s Lakes International Comic Art Festival in October, in Kendal to promote the series.
The Radio 4 Extra broadcast of Voyage to Venus on Sunday 5th August will be preceded by another broadcast of the Eagle: The Space Age Weekly documentary first transmitted in 2010.
Voyage to Venus
Written by Richard Kurti and Bev Doyle
Voyage To Venus is the first in a gripping series of two-part adventures based on the 1950 Eagle comic strip created by the Reverend Marcus Morris and Frank Hampson.
Dashing test pilot Dan Dare is selected to fly the Anastasia – a new spacecraft using alien technology – on its maiden voyage to Venus. The mission is to make first contact with the mysterious civilisation that sent the technological secrets to Earth. However, what Dan, Digby and Professor Peabody find on Venus isn’t goodwill, but a terrifyingly intelligent, cold-hearted ruler, The Mekon – a creature destined to become Dan Dare’s nemesis and Earth’s greatest threat.
