Next week, Aston’s Auctioneers are hosting a massive August Toy & Model Railway Auction that includes Doctor Who, Gerry Anderson and Star Wars toys and we’ve picked out some of the items that might interest downthetubes readers.

The auction includes the Nottingham Sci-Fi Collection, the Bagshot Corgi Collection, the Shropshire Collection of Vintage Diecast – and an ex-shop stock clearance of 1/18 scale diecast models and much more, with plenty of 1980s and 1990s toys on offer that are sure to jog a few memories, as well as 1970s gems such as figures and equipment based on The Six Million Dollar Man TV show starring Lee Majors.

Among the hundreds of lots on offer, which include model trains as well as media-related items, we spotted an album containing a large quantity of Gum Cards, including sets featuring Danger Man, The Saint, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Persuaders and others – but there’s lot featuring other albums, too, which includes Doctor Who, Star Trek and Stingray card sets.

Also on offer is a huge single  lot of enamel pin badges, including Beano-related items.

Gerry Anderson fans won’t be disappointed by what’s on offer, but I expect the boxed Dinky Space: 1999 Eagles will command much interest and bids – the 359 Eagle Transporter and 360 Eagle Freighter.

There’s an unboxed Mego Doctor Who action figure on offer (based on Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor), together with an odd-looking Codeg mechanical Dalek.

If you’re a superhero fan,, then a boxed Superman Corgi Toys Gift Set 21 set, containing three diecast models, Daily Planet Jetcopter, Metropolis Buick and Supermobile may be of interest – but the two Corgi Spider-Man related diecast models (#261 Spiderbuggy & Green Goblin and #266 Spiderbike) may be more your style.

No Dan Dare this time around, but there are two Flash Gordon items are also on offer – a Mego Playset, including both accessories, and a King Features Syndicate Stun Gun, in its box.

Perhaps the oddest action figure on offer is the Larami Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles “Orange Martian”, one of a number of figures licensed from the TV mini series, first broadcast in early 1980. In fact, it isn’t actually a Martian at all – in the first episode, Colonel Jeff Spender (played by Bernie Casey on screen) “goes native” on his landing party, killing them off while wearing this Martian battle mask! (There’s more on this peculiar line here on Plaidstallions.com).
