OzConUK is a new media event on the British scene for 2018, offering a mix of TV series and film actors, comics and cosplay, which has worked hard to promote their project through local schools.

Taking place in Oswestry Shropshire over 4th – 5th August, announcex guests so far are Matthew Dale, who appeared in Star War Rogue One and as “Big John” in the Doctor Who episode Robot of Sherwood; Daniel Eghan, who’s appeared in numerous TV dramas including Sherlock and Stan Lee’s Lucky Man, as well as in films such as Star Wars Rogue One and Doctor Strange; and acclaimed cosplayer Odd Socks, who will be attending the event to judge the OzConUK cosplay competition, which offers a big cash prize.

Also at the event will be prosthetic make-up artist Dan Tuck, Davros and his Daleks, and the BB8 Builders Club with a BB8 Astromech Droid.

Local schools have been actively encouraged to get involved in OZConUK’s trophy design competition for the cosplay competition, detailed here on the web site.

Organisers say multiple traders will be at this new event, selling a wide range of goodies including comic books, comic book art, clothing, uniquely designed trinkets, figures, games and much much more.

John Freeman

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Explorer (previously known as Star Trek Magazine) and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War and “Dan Dare”. He’s the writer of "Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies" for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
