The Scottish Centre For Comics Studies and the Centre For Scottish Culture, both at the University Of Dundee, have teamed up to make October 2014 Heroes And Villains month in Dundee and this then will be the theme of the 2014 Dundee Comics Prize.
The aim of the Dundee Comics Prize, originally called the Tartan Bucket Prize, is to promote new talent in comics and to help creators gain recognition. The winners are announced at the Dundee Literary Festival’s Dundee Comics Day which this year will take place on Sunday 26 October.
Entries can be in any genre but must respond to the theme of Heroes and Villains. The competition is open to everyone and the submissions can be in any style, black and white or colour, but the work must be finished to a high standard including being lettered and inked. Entries must be a complete story between four and eight pages long and one page may be a cover image although this is not essential.
The first prize is £250 and publication in the second issue of UniVerse’s title Tales Of The Universe while there will be a runner-up prize of £100 which will also be published. The winner and runner-up will be invited to attend the Dundee Comics Day.
All queries and submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
