One Beat Zines announces third anthology, “Identity” will launch at Thought Bubble

One Beat Zines, thezine-making collective/distro run by Sarah Broadhurst and Julia Scheele has announced the impending release of their third anthology since they launched almost exactly one year ago.

Identity – available for pre-order from the OBZ shop – is a book full of varied and diverse female voices writing and/or drawing about who they are, how they see themselves and how they feel placed in the world at large – featuring over 80 pages of personal essays, illustration, photography, comics, interviews, and collage work, printed on lovely recycled, uncoated textured paper.

The book’s line-up features the work of as many as thirty-three amazing contributors for this book – including, Hannah K. Chapman, co-founder of Comic Book Slumber Party: Stephanie Phillipsmusic blogger and singer in feminist punk band Big JoanieCherry Styles, the artist and zinester behind Synchronise Witches and The ChapessSamya Arif, a feminist illustrator from Pakistan (profiled in VICE a while ago back here); Jordana GlobermanMarja de Sanctis, and Hannah Prebble, the girls behind OBZ’s best-selling zine Pink Spex (there’s a great write-up in Dazed here); Sabba Khan and Amneet Johal, two of the people behind the Alternative Press Fair; amazingly talented illustrators like Eleni KalorkotiKelsey Wroten and Laura Callaghan, comics heroes Jess MiltonSammy BorrasLizz LunneyLiz Greenfield and many, many more.

The 80-page book will premiere at Thought Bubble Festival  in Leeds on 14th November 2015, and will be mailed out to pre-order customers by early December, in time for Christmas.

The founder of downthetubes, John works as a comics editor, writer, as Creative Consultant on the Dan Dare audio adventures for B7 Media, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. Working in British comics publishing for over 30 years, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Magazine and Babylon 5 Magazine.
