Andy Diggle heads for Lakes Festival

Andy Diggle

It’s just one week to go before the first ever Lakes International Comic Art Festival – and I’m looking forward to my session with former 2000AD editor and writer Andy Diggle.

One of the UK’s leading comic-book writers, he is currently writing Doctor Who for IDW Comics; Uncanny for Dynamite; and Thief of Thieves for Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman at Skybound.

Andy, who lives in Lancaster, is best known for co-creating the New York Times bestselling action thriller The Losers, which was nominated for the prestigious Eisner Awards, with long-time collaborator Jock. The feature film adaptation opened worldwide in 2010. Their graphic novel Green Arrow: Year One was also a major influence on the hit TV show, Arrow.

Andy’s previous work includes the FBI thriller Rat Catcher for Vertigo Crime; Batman, Hellblazer, Adam Strange and Swamp Thing for DC Comics/Vertigo; Daredevil, Shadowland, Thunderbolts, Dark Reign: Hawkeye and Six Guns for Marvel; Guy Ritchie’s Gamekeeper for Virgin Comics; Bionic Commando for Capcom; Lenny Zero for 2000AD; and Silent Dragon with superstar artist Leinil Yu.

I’ll be talking to him about how be broke into the comics business, his time as editor at 2000AD, his first comic work and his approach to creating comics; and finding out what’s coming next for this prolific and talented author, who may have news hot from this week’s New York Comic Con to share with the audience.

There are many more 2000AD creators at the Festival, including Carlos Ezquerra, Robbie Morrison and John Wagner, and there’s a a very special celebration of the evolution and influence of the ever-popular comic on Saturday night (details here).
