Dan Dare Audio Adventures gets Radio Award nominations

2017 NYF Radio Awards

I’m delighted to report B7 Productions, the company behind the new Dan Dare Audio Adventures and an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s classic SF novel I, Robot, has four nominations for the 2017 NYF Radio Awards.

The Dan Dare Audio Adventures have been nominated for Best Director and Best Online Programme in the UK category of the awards.

I, Robot has also been nominated for Best Director – and Best Drama Special.

Dan Dare: The Audio Adventures Volume Two - Box ArtThe second tranche of Dan Dare Audio Adventures, which includes the billing “Reign of the Robots” was recently released by distributor Big Finish.

Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot, aired as 15 Minute Drama by the BBC, tells the story of the rise of robotics in the 21st century, told through the poignant and mysterious story of enigmatic lawyer Stevie Byerley. The novel was dramatised by Richard Kurti.

World-wide since 1982, New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards honors the “World’s Best Radio Programs”, receiving entries from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from over 30 countries around the globe.

“The nominations alone are a tribute to the brilliant cast and crew of Dan Dare and I, Robot,” says Dan Dare producer and director Andrew Mark Sewell.

I’m honoured to have had a part in the creation of this updating of Dan Dare as creative consultant. Congratulations to the whole team involved!

The winners will be announced on Monday 19th June 2017 at an awards ceremony at in New York City.

The founder of downthetubes, John describes himself as is a "freelance comics operative" who is currently working as a freelance editor for TITAN COMICS, as Creative Consultant on the new DAN DARE audio adventures for B7 Media, and on promotional work for the LAKES INTERNATIONAL COMIC ART FESTIVAL and LANCASTER COMICS DAY. John has worked in British comics publishing for over 25 years, starting out at Marvel UK, where he edited a number of the Genesis 1992 books with Paul Neary, including DEATH'S HEAD II and WARHEADS. At Marvel he wrote strips for THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, THUNDERCATS, DOCTOR WHO and co-created SHADOW RIDERS with Brian Williamson and Ross Dearsley. His numerous credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine at Marvel and Star Trek Magazine and Babylon 5 Magazine at Titan Magazines, where he was Managing Editor. He also edited STRIP Magazine and worked as an editor on several audio comics for ROK Comics, including TEAM M.O.B.I.L.E. and THE BEATLES STORY. He has written comics for Marvel UK, Judge Dredd Megazine, Lucky Bag Comic, CGL (an Italian publisher), STRIP Magazine and ROK Comics; and edited some of Titan's British comics collections including Dan Dare and Charley's War. Most recently he is writing CRUCIBLE as a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz, published on Tapastic; and DEATH DUTY and SKOW DOGS with Dave Hailwood for the digital comic 100% Biodegradable.
