After over 15 years beavering away in the indie comics industry, comic creator Dave Hailwood decided it was probably about time that he put out his own comic anthology. With the aid of John Kirkham, Paul Harrison-Davies, Stuart Giddings, Simon Mackie and Tony Suleri and others, he’s now done it.
His new bi-monthly sci-fi digital comics anthology 100% Biodegradable features work from various UK creators, tackling all the hard hitting topical subjects you’d expect, such as “Just what would happen if a gigantic 50 foot tall rodent went on the rampage at the local supermarket?” and “Can psychic alien cab drivers with a psychotic hatred of advertising agencies truly be trusted?”
It’s a great package with the Paul Harrison-Davies-drawn “Medium Flake” and “Slayer Keith” (concerning the aforementioned giant rodent) my favourite stories – and Tony Suleri is on fine form with his art for “Marren Kane” and “Spare Parts”. The stories are irreverent and funny, but the longform tales ooze action and the kind of wonderful craziness we’ve come to demand of the creators involved.
“Although the majority of Issue 1 is written by myself, I’m hoping to gradually bring aboard more UK creators,” Dave tells us. “so if anyone is interested in contributing to future issues please send work to the editorial address at: biomekazoik@gmail.com.
“We’re preferably looking for sci-fi/fantasy/horror/adventure,” he notes. “File format RGB, 300dpi, 1988 x 3056.”
• The 30 page first issue of 100% Biodegradable is on sale now for just one measly Earth £1 (or $1.62) from Comicsy or Drivethrucomics
