History of Comics crowdfunder offers chance to donate copies to your local public library or school

History of Comics Nos. 9 - 12

With one month to go in their current History of Comics part work crowdfunding campaign, ComicScene are giving comic fans the opportunity to share their passion of the medium and donate a History of Comics book to a public library or school via their latest Kickstarter.

You can make the donation here as a reward or ‘add on’ to your pledge to support production of Books 9 – 12 in the History of Comics series, which will cover the years 1966, 1972, 1982 and 1989, and the ComicScene team are asking you to ‘Pass It On’ and help spread the word about the creativity of the comics medium.

“We’ve been doing work with schools and libraries for a while and some do have the History of Comics on their shelves,” says Publisher Tony Foster. “However, many cannot afford them, so this is a great way for comic fans to buy a book or more for them.  It also helps this major History of Comics Project as we feature one year in comics over one hundred books.”

The pledge for a library donation is only £10 for one, £40 for four or add on any others with no postal charge to you.

  • History or Comics 1966
  • History or Comics 1972

Including those in this campaign, twelve books are currently on offer, with previous editions covering the years 1984, 1977, 1950,1986, 1971, 1976, 1991 and 2020. You can get the books for yourself and add on a donation or simply donate books to a library and the History of Comics will ‘Pass It On’ for you.

Other ComicScene publications are also available as ‘add ons’ in this campaign.

The latest four books include chapters such as “Culture and Comics” and “The Top 10 Comics You Must Own”, and items on comics and creators such as 1960s comic Smash!, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Creepy and Eeire, Pippin, Lady Penelope, Thunderbolt, Ranger, Swamp Thing, Tomb of Dracula, Marvel in the UK, When The Wind Blows, Warrior, V For Vendetta, Camelot 3000 and much more.

Each perfect bound book is A4, full colour, 60 pages with optional slipcase that holds four books. Your support helps pay the designers and writers who contribute to the series.

“We hope comic fans can pledge and support this project from a small donation, £10 digital edition or to all twelve books,” says Tony.

• You can make your pledge until 12th October 2021 at the History of Comics Kickstarter here
