America’s National Cartoonists Society has released its nominees for the 2024 Divisional Awards as part of the 78th Annual NCS Reuben Awards. Among them is Tom Richmond, nominated for “Book Illustration”, co-creator of CLAPTRAP, a superb book of movie parodies published in partnership with fellow by MAD magazine stalwart, Desmond Devlin.
“A huge honour!” says Tom, who is a regular guest at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, and will be back again September. “Many thanks to the NCS for the nomination.”

CLAPTRAP is a fantastic 124 page hardcover book featuring twelve movie parodies and lots of extra stuff, offering twelve superbly delivered, extremely silly parodies of iconic movies such as Blade Runner, The Blues Brothers, Citizen Kane, Die Hard, The Shawshank Redemption and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Artist Tom Richmond debuted in MAD in 2000, becoming its signature caricaturist in the years that followed, and is the winner of the National Cartoonists Society’s prestigious 2011 Reuben Award for the year’s outstanding cartoonist.

He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
