In the latest episode of the brilliant “Creator at Large” Podcast, host Jeremy Melloul talks to Chip Mosher, Head of Content at Comixology, about the digital comics distributor and publisher’s evolution, pre and post its Amazon acquisition, their Print-on-Demand service and ComiXology’s integration with Amazon.
After 20 years of experience working across various roles, Chip Mosher, whose past career includes working at Boom! Studios, knows the comic book industry well.
He has some interesting insights on the ComiXology Originals Program – and also offers some broader perspective on the industry today.
Richard Starkings‘ Elephantmen is one of the creator-owned projects Chip highlights as a success story for the company’s approach to supporting independent publishers, including their Print on Demand service.
Creator at Large offers weekly interviews with comic book professionals discussing the comic book industry’s trends and changes with the aim of helping comic creators build a career working in comics. It’s well worth a listen – new episodes appear every Tuesday.
“I’m by no means an expert on the traditional comic industry – and I don’t intend to pretend to be one,” Jeremy notes on his web site. “What I am is a marketing consultant, specialising in working with artistic professionals and creative companies. I’ve worked with painters, screenwriters, publishers, and production companies.
“Despite that I’ve never been an editor at a comic publisher, or an on-staff marketing director – but this site was never meant to be your guide to playing by the rules.
“Creator At Large is meant to challenge you to make comics differently and build a career on your own terms. It’s a place to discuss where the industry is going, and try to find how we, as creators, can get ahead of the curve by challenging established notions of how the industry works best.”
