Godzilla's Lockdown Diary By Edward Taylor

Godzilla’s Lockdown Diary by Edward Taylor is now being published by the Lakes International Comic Art Festival as a free to read comic on the digital comics platform Tapas for the very first time.

The strip, which will be published three times a week in episodes of varying lengths in the run up to this year’s now virtual Lakes International Comic Art Festival weekend in October.

The “Diary” that emerged from a long series of drawings that Edward created in 2017, which looked at what Godzilla did underground when he wasn’t above ground fighting ludicrous monsters. 40 of these drawings were exhibited at the Brewery Art Centre in Kendal, during the Lakes International Comic Art Festival last year.

This diary was started in February 2020, a month before the Coronavirus Pandemic shut everything down. These pages were drawn from mid-March to mid-May.

Edward Taylor has spent 38 years touring nationally and internationally with the Whalley Range All Stars, a street theatre company he formed with Sue Auty. Drawing plays an important part in the early stages of every company production.

In the last few years, Edward has worked on a variety of comic strip stories as a side-line to the theatre shows.

“Sue Auty provided a valuable editorial eye as the stories emerged on paper,” says Edward, “but I’m indebted to LICAF Festival Director Julie Tait for showing such faith in the work.”

The Festival has also published free to read editions of its Lost in Space Competition Winners Anthology on the platform, and its 2018 LICAF Journal by Graeme McNee and the 2019 Journal by Jibé.
