Here’s the cover and some beautiful colour plates from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, illustrated by A. H. Watson.
First published in 1865, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has remained a continually popular and well loved children’s story, centred around the story of Alice, and her surreal experiences after falling down a rabbit hole and entering Wonderland.
Alice Helena Watson (1896 – 1984) was a prolific and highly skilled artist, who is best known for her graceful work for children’s books and nursery tales, but also provided illustrations for dust-jackets, magazines, and other one-off pieces.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, illustrated by A. H. Watson – 1960 edition
This collect edition of Alice’s adventures, which also includes several inked drawings throughout, was first published by Collins in 1939, later re-printed in 1951, 1956, 1957 and 1960 that I’m aware of, some editions with new covers. There may have been other editions.
Included here is a picture of the 1957 edition’s cover binding, behind the dust jacket. The 1951 edition used the same, but with a green cover.
