Geeks Comic-Cons, who organise events across the UK, are determined to bring some sunshine and laughter to the awesomely amazing seaside town of Morecambe this August Bank Holiday Monday when Heroes & Foes brings a fantastic Family Mini Comic-Con to The Platform in the town’s sea front.
Although none of the major guests have anything to do with comics (unless you count Red Dwarf actor Chris Barrie‘s appearance in the SF comedy show’s short-lived magazine), a similar event organised by a different company in the same venue attracted some 1500 happy punters earlier in the year, so let’s not be too harsh. (Even if we’re told the guy who turned up in cosplay as Sonic the Hedgehog was a bit prickly – ouch…)
Others on the line-up include Harry Potter actor Brian Wheeler (who also appeared as both a Jawa and an Ewok in Star Wars Episode VI – Return of the Jedi), Doctor Who and Star Wars actor Nick Joseph and Star Wars – Rogue One actor Sandeep Mohan. (intriguingly, apart from Chris Barrie, all of these actors feature on the web site Sci-Fi Signers, so if you’re looking for this kind of talent to appear at an event, here’s where to look).
Geeks Comic-Cons, who also have events lined up soon in Gloucester (9th September), Barnsley (1st October), Sutton Coldfield (7th October) and more (full list through the rest of 2017 – 2018 here) promise Heroes & Foes will be “a non-stop rollercoaster ride of thrills and excitement for all members of the family, young and old.
Along with the celebrity guests, on offer are interactive games and stage show, the UK’s finest traders, a fantastic cosplay competition, prop displays and YouTube cosplaying.
The “astonishingly maniacal” Michael The Lunatic from YouTube will be the event’s guest host throughout the day, bringing his sofa along for the ride as he “runs amok” throughout the venue. He’ll be filming interviews with cosplayers and is looking forward to capturing some great antics on the day and you never know, you might well end up in one of his videos!
The event also includes a menagerie of fantastic interactive props throughout The Platform to help you become a part of the amazing fantasy worlds, plus there’s and amazing interactive stage show running all day, with some fun games, talks and activities to keep you all entertained.
The cosplay competition is at 3.00pm, and is your chance to show off your costumes to the wonderful audience, and there will also be some geeky prizes up for grabs. It’s entirely free to enter, just sign up at the registration desk and you never know, your cosplay talents may well be rewarded with one of our geeky prize. We think everyone’s a winner, and we love seeing all your costumes.
“We aim to please all members of the family, both young and old,” says the organisers, “so what better way for you and the family to spend your bank holiday Monday than with us here in Morecambe, where we promise to deliver a day out you’ll never forget.”
If only there were some actual comics at this “comic-con”, hmm? I guess you’ll have to head to London Super Comic Con if you want those this weekend.
