Coming in March 2017 from IDW is Judge Dredd: Deviations, written and drawn by John McCrea, coloured by Mike Spicer, a project the comic creator describes as a tribute “to the late, and oh so very great, Steve Dillon”.
Judge Dredd fans will already know that earlier this year, IDW released a number of one-shot “Deviations” books which, just like Marvel’s What If and DC’s Batman Elseworlds titles, posited different paths for well-known characters if things happened differently in stories of their classic characters. These included the GI Joe-inspired tale “What if Cobra Commander won?” and “What would happen if the Ghostbusters never crossed the streams?”
A new set of “Deviations” is on course for release next year – a five-week Deviations event – which will launch with a Judge Dredd story, “Howl of the Wolf!”, by John McCrea that takes a sideways look at one of the more celebrated Dredd stories and sees a different outcome to the classic “Cry of the Werewolf” story that appeared in 2000AD progs 322 – 328 back in 1983, the work of John Wagner, Alan Grant, Steve Dillon and Tom Frame.
While that story saw Dredd beat off the werewolf threat from Mega City One’s under city, John McCrea asks what Mega City One would be like if its toughest lawman had never recovered from that time he was briefly a werewolf…
